Aaron Good, MS, CRC, LPC, CCC

My Mission

I take a humanistic approach to counseling, believing that we are all whole and sometimes just need a little help finding meaning and growth in the background noise of our fears and anxieties. I believe our relationship with nature can be as important as our relationship with people, and that all of these relationships can be understood in terms of systems of interaction.

Education and Experience

I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Portland State University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and abide by the Code of Ethics adopted by the Oregon Board of Counselors and Therapists. I’m also a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), a specialization that focuses on vocational rehabilitation, disability, and adjustment. My undergraduate degree from Reed College is in cultural anthropology.

I started my transition into the mental health field by volunteering at a suicide and veterans crisis line – an experience that allowed me to channel my love for the world and humankind into helping others. Now that energy goes into my work as a counselor and volunteering with William Temple House, Habitat for Humanity, the Oregon Food Bank, and local riparian restoration teams.

I have taken additional coursework in issues affecting veterans, group facilitation, overcoming oppression, and confronting racism. I have also taken classes at Lewis and Clark College on ecopsychology, where we studied the healing effects of nature on the human psyche, how to explore clients’ relationships with nature, and how to use the natural world itself in psychotherapy with clients.

Industry Exposure & Approach

Before I counseled myself into a career as a mental health professional, I worked in public, private, and nonprofit sectors. I enjoyed a long career in Information Technology, first helping design professionals solve workflow problems (Adobe) and then managing large-scale enterprise systems (Nike and MGM). I still engage in technology-related work for Person-Centered Tech, a small business that provides training for therapists in the ethical and appropriate use of technology.

As a career and mental health counselor in private practice, I focus on career, purpose, and identity. I work with individuals throughout the lifespan who want to improve their current job, find a new career more aligned with their values, or reaffirm the track they’re on. I cover the range of career issues, from understanding how anxiety and depression can impact our work and purpose, to the practical mechanics of assessment and job search.

Just For Fun

I live in Portland, Oregon with my wife, our cat, and our three chickens who provide us with tasty eggs and endless entertainment. When I'm not at work I'm usually hiking or running, riding my bike down winding backroads and root-filled trails, or exploring the stunning beauty of the Oregon desert.

In addition to partnering with Dave at Gallison Consulting, I also maintain a separate practice as Trailhead Counseling, LLC.
